Djokovic, Nadal and Federer in three tenths of a point, with Sinner closing
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
The August 2026 tennis list is a tight top three of the last era's rivals, and every one of the ninety-one names measured is alive.
Novak Djokovic is the most famous tennis player in the world for August 2026, with a fame score of 22.5. Rafael Nadal is second at 22.3 and Roger Federer third at 22.1, which means the three men who defined a generation of the sport are separated by four tenths of a point, with two of them retired. That is durable attention, not news.
Jannik Sinner, the Italian who reached the top of the rankings faster than almost anyone, is fourth at 21, and Alexander Zverev, a fixture of the top ten for nearly a decade, fifth at 20.4. Serena Williams, sixth at 20.2, is the most famous woman on the list and the only one in the top seven. Paolo Maldini, seventh at 18.9, is an Italian football executive and former defender; the sector gathers adjacent figures, and he is one. Carlos Alcaraz, the Spaniard who has spent 66 weeks at world No. 1 by 23, is eighth at 18.8.
The women's game fills the next stretch. Maria Sharapova, who won Wimbledon at 17, is ninth at 15.3, Iga Świątek of Poland tenth, Coco Gauff, the American who took the 2023 US Open and 2025 French Open, eleventh, and Venus Williams and Elena Rybakina level at 13.9. Naomi Osaka and Daniil Medvedev complete the group.
Ninety-one people were measured across thirty-two countries, more countries than almost any other sector in this issue, and all ninety-one are living. Spain supplies nine names, Russia and the Czech Republic eight each, Australia seven. The fame at the top belongs to Serbia, Spain, Switzerland and Italy, and none of the top four is American.
About this list
This list ranks the most famous tennis players in the world as of August 2026, by overall global fame rather than one month's attention. It is the top 91 of 91 names the rankings measured in this sector, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 91 of the 91 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.
Novak Djokovic is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Novak Djokovic come Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About Tennis
Tennis is one of the sectors the journal ranks every month, alongside every country, origin and region list in this issue. Sector lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared across sectors and against the world. Tennis Grand Slams, ATP, WTA and the rivalries that drive them.
