Game of Thrones still holds the screen, with Stranger Things and Breaking Bad behind

Three American series lead the August 2026 titles list, and Christopher Nolan is the only director with more than one entry in the top fifteen.
Game of Thrones is the most famous film or television title in the world for August 2026, a score of 28.5 for a series about seven noble families fighting over Westeros that ended its run in 2019. Stranger Things, set in Hawkins, Indiana, in 1983, is second at 26.8, and Breaking Bad, the story of New Mexico chemistry teacher Walter White, third at 26.7. The two are separated by a tenth of a point.
Television takes the first four places. Money Heist, the Spanish series that arrived on Antena 3 in 2017 with a plan to rob the Royal Mint, is fourth at 25.4 and the highest-placed title from outside the United States. The first films come next, and both are Christopher Nolan's: Oppenheimer fifth at 25.3 and Inception sixth at 25.2. The Dark Knight, his Gotham film, is eleventh, which gives Nolan three of the fifteen.
The middle of the table mixes formats freely. The Boys, the series about vigilantes hunting corrupt superheroes, is seventh. Toy Story, the 1995 film that changed how animation was made, is eighth, Fast & Furious ninth, and House of the Dragon, the Targaryen prequel, tenth. The Big Bang Theory, which ran on CBS from 2007 to 2019, is twelfth.
The last three show how long attention can last. Léon: The Professional, Luc Besson's 1994 thriller, is thirteenth. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Miloš Forman's 1975 drama with Jack Nicholson as Randle McMurphy, is fourteenth, half a century after release. Avatar: The Last Airbender, the Nickelodeon series that launched in 2005, closes the fifteen at 22.2. Only 65 titles were measured in the scope, a small pool compared with the people lists, and the scores are lower across the board, but the order within it is stable and worldwide.

About this list
This list ranks the most famous movies and TV titles in the world as of August 2026, by overall global fame rather than one month's attention: the top 65 of 65 the rankings measured, frozen as the permanent record of that edition.
Game of Thrones is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Game of Thrones come Stranger Things and Breaking Bad.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.

iFAMOUS is published by iFANN and powered by the iFANN Global Fame Rankings v5.62. Today's live standing for this list is on ifann.net; the journal freezes it once a month so it can be cited permanently.
