The most famous groups and teams

Real Madrid is the most famous group in the world for August 2026, and the group in question is a football club. The Madrid side scores 57.2, with FC Barcelona, its rival from La Maternitat i Sant Ramon, second at 55.6, so the Clásico pairing holds the top of a list that could in principle include bands, ensembles and any other collective. It does not. All fifteen names at the top of the table are football clubs.

Paris Saint-Germain, formed in August 1970 through the merger of Paris FC and Stade Saint-Germain, is third at 50, the last club above that mark. Then England takes over: Manchester United fourth, Arsenal fifth, Manchester City sixth, Liverpool seventh, each separated from the next by a fraction of a point. Bayern Munich breaks the sequence at eighth on 48.5, with Chelsea ninth.

Italy supplies the next three, Inter Milan and AC Milan side by side at tenth and eleventh on 46 and 45.9, and Juventus, founded by Turinese students on November 1, 1897, twelfth. Tottenham Hotspur, Galatasaray and Aston Villa complete the fifteen, the Istanbul club the only one from outside the big five European leagues, and Villa the lowest-scoring at 43.9, still less than fourteen points behind Real Madrid.

The distance from first to fifteenth is a little over thirteen points, which says something about clubs: they hold attention through the season rather than through a single star, and they hold it across borders. Seven of the fifteen are English, three Italian, two Spanish, and the rest French, German and Turkish.
