About iFAMOUS
iFAMOUS is the monthly journal of fame: the record of how widely the world knows its best-known people, assessed once a month and published as a permanent issue, with the archive, the history and the writing that a record deserves.
Every day, the iFANN Global Fame Rankings at ifann.net/famous assess thousands of people, groups, works and brands by how widely the world knows them, worldwide, by country, by region and by sector, drawing on extensive historical and current public data. Once a month those rankings are frozen, and iFAMOUS publishes them as an issue.
The two lists
The standard list is The 100 Most Famous People in the World, the iFAMOUS 100. It covers everyone: the living and the dead, the contemporary and the historical, ranked together by their overall global fame as it stood at the date of the issue. There is no separate category for the departed; a name the world still knows earns its place on the same list as everyone else.
Alongside it stands The Most Famous People in the World Alive, dated to the month: the same ranking restricted to living people. Every country, origin, region and sector list in the journal carries the same two readings.
Fame, not the month's news
The month on the cover is the date of the assessment, not the period being measured. Fame is built over years and often decades, so a rank is a snapshot of overall standing at that date, and The 100 moves slowly from issue to issue. What is rising this month is a different measurement, published live as Trending on ifann.net and never confused with fame here.
A journal, not a dashboard
The live rankings on ifann.net are where fame is assessed every day. iFAMOUS is where it is recorded every month. Each issue is a numbered, permanent document with its own lists, its editorial pieces and its colophon. Around the issues sit the standing sections: the archive of every recorded month, the people pages that track one name across every issue, the world and sector desks, the records, and the editorial section.
Editions
Issues are published online first. A print edition of each issue, produced from the same pages, is prepared for library deposit and press copies, and the journal's ISSN registrations are in progress with the U.S. ISSN Center at the Library of Congress. Numbers will be printed in the colophon of every issue once assigned.
