Tennis has no dead in its ranks, so the living list is the sport
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
With all ninety-one measured names alive, the August 2026 Alive reading of the tennis list reads the retired against the active and the women against the men.
Tennis is a sector with nothing to subtract. All ninety-one people measured for August 2026 are alive, so the Alive reading is identical to the full list, and the more useful way to read it is by who is still playing.
The top three are two retired men and one active. Novak Djokovic, first at 22.5, still competes; Rafael Nadal, second at 22.3, and Roger Federer, third at 22.1, have both stopped, and neither has lost measurable attention for it. Serena Williams, sixth at 20.2, and Maria Sharapova, ninth at 15.3, are also retired and still outrank most of the current tour. Venus Williams, twelfth at 13.9, is still playing.
The active generation is led by Jannik Sinner at fourth with 21 and Carlos Alcaraz at eighth with 18.8, the two men who now trade the world No. 1 ranking between them. Alexander Zverev, fifth at 20.4, and Daniil Medvedev, fifteenth at 12.4, are the veterans of that group. On the women's side Iga Świątek is tenth at 14.9, Coco Gauff eleventh at 14, Elena Rybakina, born in Moscow and playing for Kazakhstan, thirteenth, and Naomi Osaka fourteenth at 12.9.
Six of the fifteen are women, which is a higher share than most sports lists in this issue manage. Paolo Maldini, seventh, is the one adjacent figure, an Italian footballer the sector gathers rather than a player. The ranking measures worldwide fame, and among the living the split is plain: the retired champions of the last twenty years still hold as much of it as the champions of this one.
About this list
This list ranks the most famous tennis players in the world as of August 2026, by overall global fame rather than one month's attention. It is the top 91 of 91 names the rankings measured in this sector, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the Alive reading: living people only. The standard reading ranks everyone, living or dead, on one scale, and is one click away.
Novak Djokovic is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Novak Djokovic come Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About Tennis
Tennis is one of the sectors the journal ranks every month, alongside every country, origin and region list in this issue. Sector lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared across sectors and against the world. Tennis Grand Slams, ATP, WTA and the rivalries that drive them.
Powered by iFANN
iFAMOUS is published by iFANN and powered by the iFANN Global Fame Rankings v5.62. Today's live standing for this list is on ifann.net; the journal freezes it once a month so it can be cited permanently.
