Donald Trump's 41.7 dwarfs every founder on the business list

The August 2026 business and finance table is small, American and led by a president, with Musk, Gates and Zuckerberg following and Jeffrey Epstein the highest of the dead.
Donald Trump is the most famous name in business and finance for August 2026, and no founder comes close. His score of 41.7 is twelve points ahead of Elon Musk at 29.4, who is himself well clear of Bill Gates at 25.9 and Mark Zuckerberg at 23.3. The sector tag gathers people whose fame is bound to money and markets, and a president who built his name on a family property company qualifies as readily as the men who built Microsoft and Facebook.
This is one of the smaller lists in the issue: 27 names across nine countries, 19 of them living, and 15 of them American. Germany supplies four, France two. Emmanuel Macron, who came to the presidency of France from investment banking, is fifth at 21.7, and Mark Carney, the former central banker who became prime minister of Canada in 2025, is thirteenth. Angela Merkel is fourteenth.
The dead hold three places. Jeffrey Epstein, the financier and convicted sex offender, is sixth at 21.4, ahead of Warren Buffett, and Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, the two industrialists whose companies defined American manufacturing, are ninth and eleventh. Jeff Bezos, Amazon's founder, sits between them at tenth with 18.9, the same score as Edison.
Jay-Z, seventh at 21.3, is the only entertainer in the group, and his blurb calls him a record executive and businessman before it calls him a rapper. Peter Thiel, the German-American venture capitalist, is twelfth, and Jensen Huang of Nvidia, the company his blurb describes as the world's most valuable, is fifteenth at 15.6. The ranking measures fame rather than net worth, and on that scale politics outranks capital. The three most famous businessmen alive are outscored by a politician who was once one of them.
