Chang Chen and Brigitte Lin lead a Taiwanese list where nobody has died
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
All sixty-eight names measured for Taiwanese drama in August 2026 are living, and the two at the top are film actors rather than idol-drama stars.
Chang Chen is the most famous name on the Taiwanese drama list for August 2026, with a fame score of 6.4. He is an actor whose reputation was made in international cinema rather than in the idol romances the sector is named for, and the woman behind him is of the same kind: Brigitte Lin, second at 6.2, was one of the defining stars of Chinese-language film and has not acted regularly in decades.
Lin Chi-ling, the model, actress and presenter, is third at 5.3. Joan Lin, fourth at 5.1, was a leading lady of Taiwanese cinema in the 1970s, and Joey Wong, fifth at 4.6, became a star of Hong Kong's golden era. That is a top five in which four names built their fame before the modern television industry existed.
The idol-drama generation begins at sixth. Hannah Quinlivan and Greg Hsu are level at 3.6, Ethan Juan, who broke through in the mid-2000s dramas, is eighth at 3.4, and Mark Chao and Mason Lee follow at 3.2. Kao Chin Su-mei, a former entertainer who is now a politician, shares that score at eleventh. Ning Chang, Hsu Wei-ning, Gwei Lun-mei and Edward Chen, whose breakout came with a 2020 film, complete the group.
Sixty-eight people were measured, every one of them living and every one from Taiwan, the only single-country list in this issue. The scores are modest by global standards, and the ranking measures worldwide fame rather than domestic popularity, which is why the actors who crossed into Hong Kong and international film hold the top places over the stars of the dramas themselves.

About this list
This list ranks the most famous taiwanese drama stars in the world as of August 2026, by overall global fame rather than one month's attention. It is the top 68 of 68 names the rankings measured in this sector, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 68 of the 68 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.
Chang Chen is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Chang Chen come Brigitte Lin and Lin Chi-ling.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About Taiwanese Drama
Taiwanese Drama is one of the sectors the journal ranks every month, alongside every country, origin and region list in this issue. Sector lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared across sectors and against the world. Taiwanese dramas: idol romances, family sagas and the TW-drama classics.
