The oldest cohort holds the top. Brigitte Lin, born in 1954, is second at 6.2 and remains one of the most recognised faces in Chinese-language cinema despite a long retirement from the screen. Joan Lin, fourth at 5.1, led Taiwanese films in the 1970s. Joey Wong, fifth, is a former actress and singer from Hong Kong's golden era. Chang Chen, first at 6.4, is younger than all three and still working in international film.
The middle generation is the one the sector is actually named for. Ethan Juan, eighth at 3.4, rose through idol dramas in the mid-2000s. Mark Chao, Ning Chang, Hsu Wei-ning and Gwei Lun-mei all built careers in that era and have since moved between television and film. Greg Hsu, sixth at 3.6, Mason Lee, tenth, and Edward Chen, fifteenth at 2.7 after a 2020 breakout, are the current leading men. Hannah Quinlivan, the Australian-Taiwanese actress, sits alongside them. The one figure outside acting is Kao Chin Su-mei, a politician who was once an entertainer and holds eleventh on a mix of both careers.
