Jay-Z, Paltrow and Balvin lead a food list where the first chef is dead

iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read

Anthony Bourdain is the highest-placed chef in the August 2026 Food and Drink ranking, fourth behind three celebrities with drinks and lifestyle brands.

Food and Drink is the smallest sector in this batch, fourteen names, and its leader is a rapper. Jay-Z, the American record executive with a portfolio of drinks brands, scores 21.3 for August 2026. Gwyneth Paltrow, the actress who turned a 1990s film career into a lifestyle business, is second at 17.4, and J Balvin, the Medellín reggaeton star, is third at 16. The sector gathers adjacent figures, and its top three are people who sell what other people cook and pour.

The first chef is Anthony Bourdain, fourth at 15.4, eight years after his death. The American chef, author and broadcaster who changed how the world talks about food and travel outranks every living cook on the table. Stanley Tucci, the actor whose work now extends into the kitchen, is fifth at 13.5, and Eva Longoria of Desperate Housewives is sixth. Jon Favreau, the filmmaker, is seventh at 11.8.

Alain Ducasse, the French restaurateur whose name is shorthand for haute cuisine, is the first living working chef at eighth with 7.4. Padma Lakshmi, the Indian-born host, and Vijay Mallya, the Indian businessman, tie at 6.4. Four of the fourteen are dead, and three of them close the list: Margherita of Savoy, the first queen of a united Italy, at 6.2, Julia Child, who taught Americans to cook, at 6, and Colonel Sanders at 5.5. Joey Chestnut, the competitive eater, sits between them.

Only four countries are represented, and the United States supplies eight of the fourteen. Ten are living. A sector this small moves easily, and a single busy month for any chef could reorder it.

    About this list

This list ranks the most famous chefs and food personalities in the world as of August 2026, by overall global fame rather than one month's attention. It is the top 14 of 14 names the rankings measured in this sector, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 10 of the 14 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.

Jay-Z is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Jay-Z come Gwyneth Paltrow and J Balvin.

    What famous means here

Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.

The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.

    How the list was ranked

The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.

    About Food & Drink

Food & Drink is one of the sectors the journal ranks every month, alongside every country, origin and region list in this issue. Sector lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared across sectors and against the world. Chefs, restaurants, food media and global cuisine.

iFAMOUS is published by iFANN and powered by the iFANN Global Fame Rankings v5.62. Today's live standing for this list is on ifann.net; the journal freezes it once a month so it can be cited permanently.
