Strip out Bourdain, Julia Child, Colonel Sanders and Queen Margherita and the August 2026 food list is a celebrity table with Alain Ducasse at seventh.
The Alive reading of Food and Drink for August 2026 is ten names long. Four of the fourteen people measured in the sector are dead, the highest proportion of any list in this batch, and their absence pulls the only chef out of the top four. Anthony Bourdain, Julia Child, Colonel Sanders and Margherita of Savoy, the Italian queen consort, are gone, and what remains is a table of entertainers with a kitchen at the end.
Jay-Z leads the living at 21.3, followed by Gwyneth Paltrow at 17.4 and J Balvin at 16. Stanley Tucci, the actor and author who brings the same wit to food as to his roles, moves up to fourth at 13.5. Eva Longoria, the actress, producer and businesswoman, is fifth at 13.4 and Jon Favreau, who helped shape the modern blockbuster, sixth at 11.8.
Alain Ducasse is the only person among the living whose profession is cooking. The French chef and restaurateur is seventh at 7.4, less than half of Tucci's score and a third of Jay-Z's. Padma Lakshmi, the Indian-born host and author, and Vijay Mallya, the Indian businessman and former politician, tie at 6.4. Joey Chestnut, the competitive eater from Vallejo, California, who is widely regarded as the greatest in his discipline, closes the list at 6.
Six of the ten living names are American, two are Indian, and Balvin of Colombia and Ducasse of France complete the table. The ranking measures worldwide fame, and among the living, the attention around food belongs to the people who talk about it on screen more than to the people at the pass.
