Living Thai drama: GMMTV's generation holds half the top ten
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
One name is lost from the Alive reading of the August 2026 Thai drama list, and what remains is a table of active stars almost all under forty.
Thai drama loses only one of its eighty-nine measured names to history, and that name did not rank in the top group, so the Alive reading for August 2026 begins as the full list does with Jeff Satur at 6.3, Baifern Pimchanok at 6.1 and Yaya Urassaya at 5.8. The eighty-eight living names are, with rare exceptions, working actors in their twenties and thirties.
The BL wave is the sector's living engine. Bright Vachirawit and Phuwin Tangsakyuen, level at 5.3, Win Metawin at 5.1, Mew Suppasit at 3.9 and Nanon Korapat at 3.7 are all products of the boys' love series that turned Thai television into an export. Phuwin is signed to GMMTV, the studio behind much of the wave, and his lead role in Fish upon the Sky is the one the blurb names.
The women on the list come from two directions. Baifern, Yaya, Davika Hoorne at 4.1 and Freen Sarocha at 3.8 built their fame in conventional lakorn and film, with Freen crossing into the girls' love series that followed the BL boom. Becky Armstrong, born in 2002 and eleventh at 4, is the youngest name in the group. Engfa Waraha, fifteenth, arrived through beauty pageants, winning Miss Grand Thailand in 2022.
The elders are few. Thongchai McIntyre, ninth at 4.2, has been a singer and actor for decades, and Nadech Kugimiya, sixth, has led lakorn since 2010 and counts as a veteran here. Mario Maurer is eighth. The ranking measures worldwide fame, and among the living Thai stars that attention is young, Bangkok-based and still growing.
About this list
This list ranks the most famous thai drama stars in the world as of August 2026, by overall global fame rather than one month's attention. It is the top 88 of 88 names the rankings measured in this sector, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the Alive reading: living people only. The standard reading ranks everyone, living or dead, on one scale, and is one click away.
Jeff Satur is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Jeff Satur come Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul and Urassaya Sperbund.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About Thai Drama
Thai Drama is one of the sectors the journal ranks every month, alongside every country, origin and region list in this issue. Sector lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared across sectors and against the world. Thai lakorn series and the BL (boys' love) wave that's swept Asia.
