Hayek and Thalía lead a telenovela list that Mexico dominates by numbers
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
Forty-eight of the ninety-five names measured for telenovelas in August 2026 are Mexican, and the two most famous of them left the format for Hollywood and pop.
Salma Hayek is the most famous person the world connects to telenovelas in August 2026, with a fame score of 19. She started in the Mexican serials and became a Hollywood star, and the pattern repeats down the list: the format launches careers that are then measured by what came after. Thalía, second at 16, moved from acting into three decades of Latin pop.
Melissa Barrera, the actress from Monterrey now working in American horror films, is third at 10. Diego Luna, the actor and director from Toluca, is fourth at 9.3, and Rodrigo Santoro, fifth at 9.1, is the highest-placed Brazilian. Natalia Oreiro, the Uruguayan actress and singer whose career has been among the most durable in Latin American entertainment, is sixth at 9.
The next stretch is a Mexican run. Belinda, Spanish-born but raised in Mexico, is seventh at 8.4. Maite Perroni, Dulce María and Anahí, all three of whom came through the Rebelde generation and the band RBD, sit at eighth, ninth and fourteenth. Kate del Castillo, Verónica Castro, Angelique Boyer and Bárbara Mori, whose lead role in Rubí is still the one she is known for, fill the places between them. Daniela Melchior, twelfth at 7.5, went from Lisbon telenovelas to Hollywood and gives Portugal its one name in the group.
Ninety-five people were measured across ten countries, eighty-nine of them living. Mexico supplies forty-eight, Brazil sixteen, Colombia eleven and Argentina eight. The ranking measures worldwide fame, and by that measure the Mexican industry remains the format's centre of gravity, even when its biggest names work elsewhere.
About this list
This list ranks the most famous telenovela stars in the world as of August 2026, by overall global fame rather than one month's attention. It is the top 95 of 95 names the rankings measured in this sector, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 89 of the 95 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.
Salma Hayek is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Salma Hayek come Thalía and Melissa Barrera.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About Telenovelas
Telenovelas is one of the sectors the journal ranks every month, alongside every country, origin and region list in this issue. Sector lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared across sectors and against the world. Spanish and Portuguese-language telenovelas: Mexico, Brazil, Colombia and beyond.
