Bieber, Rihanna and Beyoncé lead an R&B list where Canada punches above its weight
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
The August 2026 R&B and soul table is topped by a Canadian, a Barbadian and a Texan, with Elvis Presley the only dead name in the top group.
Justin Bieber is the most famous name in R&B and soul for August 2026, with a fame score of 39 that puts him ahead of Rihanna at 34.7 and Beyoncé at 32.9. The Canadian's placement will raise eyebrows among purists, but the sector follows where the world's attention groups people, and his run of R&B-leaning records has kept him filed here.
Canada in fact holds three of the top six. Drake, credited with bringing R&B sensibilities into rap through his singing, is fourth at 27.3, and The Weeknd, whose atmospheric R&B defined a decade of the genre, is sixth at 25. Bruno Mars, the Hawaiian-born singer and producer, sits between them at 26.1.
Elvis Presley is seventh at 24.3, the only dead name in the top fifteen and a reminder that the King of Rock and Roll built his sound on rhythm and blues. Chris Brown, Mariah Carey with her five-octave range, Sean Combs and Jay-Z follow, then Nicki Minaj, the Trinidadian-American rapper, at 20.9.
The South Korean presence is the newest feature of the table. Jung Kook is thirteenth at 19.9 and V of BTS fifteenth at 19.6, bracketing Alicia Keys, and South Korea ties the United Kingdom with eight names each among the ninety measured. Seventy-six of those ninety are living, spread across thirteen countries, and the United States supplies fifty-two of them. Soul music remains an American art form by headcount; by fame at the very top, it has become a Canadian and Caribbean one.

About this list
This list ranks the most famous R&B and soul artists in the world as of August 2026, by overall global fame rather than one month's attention. It is the top 90 of 90 names the rankings measured in this sector, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 76 of the 90 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.
Justin Bieber is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Justin Bieber come Rihanna and Beyoncé.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About R&B / Soul
R&B / Soul is one of the sectors the journal ranks every month, alongside every country, origin and region list in this issue. Sector lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared across sectors and against the world. Rhythm-and-blues, neo-soul and contemporary R&B.
