Michael Jackson still leads pop, seventeen years on, with Bieber and Swift next
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
The King of Pop tops a table with the highest scores in the August issue, and twelve of the fifteen names below him are women.
Michael Jackson is the most famous pop artist in the world for August 2026, with a score of 42.2. He died in 2009. Justin Bieber, the Canadian singer, is second at 39, and Taylor Swift, whose songwriting has carried her from country to pop and indie folk, third at 37.3. Rihanna, the Barbadian singer and businesswoman, is fourth at 34.7, and Beyoncé fifth at 32.9. These are the highest scores of any sector in this issue.
The table is remarkable for its depth as much as its top. Jennifer Lopez, sixth at 32.3; Ariana Grande, the singer with the four-octave range, seventh at 31.3; Selena Gomez eighth at 31; Lady Gaga ninth at 30.1; Britney Spears, the Princess of Pop, tenth at 29.4. Ten names above 29 is a density no other list here approaches, and it means the order among them is a matter of a point or two.
Madonna, born in Bay City, Michigan, in 1958, is eleventh at 28.6, the oldest living name in the fifteen and the one whose career reaches back furthest. Miley Cyrus is twelfth, Drake, the Canadian rapper and singer who brought R&B phrasing into hip-hop, thirteenth at 27.3, and Katy Perry and Céline Dion share 26.8 in fourteenth and fifteenth. Twelve of the fifteen are women; Bieber, Drake and Jackson are the men.
Ninety names were measured across fifteen countries, 80 of them living. The United States supplies 49, the United Kingdom sixteen and Canada eight, yet no British artist reaches the fifteen. The ranking measures worldwide fame rather than quality, and pop's attention is the largest the engine records.

About this list
This list ranks the most famous pop stars in the world as of August 2026, by overall global fame rather than one month's attention. It is the top 90 of 90 names the rankings measured in this sector, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 80 of the 90 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.
Michael Jackson is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Michael Jackson come Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About Pop
Pop is one of the sectors the journal ranks every month, alongside every country, origin and region list in this issue. Sector lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared across sectors and against the world. Mainstream global pop: chart hits, arenas and crossover stars.

iFAMOUS is published by iFANN and powered by the iFANN Global Fame Rankings v5.62. Today's live standing for this list is on ifann.net; the journal freezes it once a month so it can be cited permanently.
