Five living US presidents and a king: the politics list without its dead

The Alive reading removes 35 names, lifts Charles III, Leo XIV, Macron and Zelenskyy into the fifteen, and shows how much of the world's political attention is American.
The living politics list for August 2026 loses Muhammad, Hitler, Elizabeth II, Diana, Kennedy, Gandhi and Lincoln from the standard top fifteen, and what remains is a table of people still in or near office. Donald Trump leads at 41.7, Barack Obama is second at 30.8, and Vladimir Putin third at 28.8. Thirty-seven of the 72 names measured are living, the smallest living share of any sector in this issue.
Five of the fifteen are United States presidents, and all five are alive: Trump, Obama, Joe Biden at fifth with 23.9, George W. Bush at thirteenth with 20.8, and Bill Clinton at fifteenth with 20.4. No other country has more than two names in the fifteen. Arnold Schwarzenegger, fourth at 24, and Benjamin Netanyahu, sixth at 23.8, complete the top six.
The British royal family fills the next three places: Prince Harry at 22.9, William at 22.2 and Charles III, king of the United Kingdom and fourteen other realms, at 22.1. Pope Leo XIV, the Chicago-born prelate who leads the Catholic Church, is tenth at 22, another adjacent figure the sector gathers. Emmanuel Macron, the youngest head of state in modern French history when he took office in 2017, is eleventh at 21.7, and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Ukraine's wartime president, twelfth at 21.4. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is fourteenth.
The ranking measures worldwide fame rather than quality, and among the living it measures something narrower still: the attention paid to American power, British monarchy and three leaders at war or in confrontation. The United States supplies 21 of the sector's names; on the living list it supplies six of the top fifteen.
