Yemi Alade tops a Nollywood list where the actresses outnumber everyone

A hundred names measured, 99 living, twelve women in the top fifteen, and a sector whose worldwide attention is still modest next to its size at home.
Yemi Alade is the most famous name in Nollywood for August 2026, with a score of 4.9. The Nigerian singer and songwriter whose Afropop has carried her from Lagos to stages abroad also acts, and it is the music that lifts her above the film industry's own stars. Osita Iheme, one half of the comedy duo Aki and Pawpaw, is second at 4.5, and Genevieve Nnaji, the actress, producer and director, third at 4.1.
The scores are low by the standards of this issue, and that is worth saying plainly. The ranking measures worldwide fame rather than quality, and Nollywood's attention is concentrated in Nigeria and West Africa, so an industry that produces more films than almost any on earth registers a top score under five. Within that band, the table is close: the fifteenth name, Mo Abudu, the media entrepreneur, sits at 2.5, less than two and a half points behind the leader.
Twelve of the fifteen are women. Akosua Busia, the Ghanaian actress and author with four decades of work, is fourth at 3.6. Iyabo Ojo, with more than 150 film appearances, is sixth. Bimbo Ademoye, Ruth Kadiri and Omotola Jalade Ekeinde follow between 3 and 2.9. Regina Daniels, eleventh, brings an online audience of over fifteen million. Nadia Buari, the Ghanaian actress and director, is twelfth, then Ini Edo and Rita Dominic. Hakeem Kae-Kazim, the Nigerian-British actor, is fifth, and Toks Olagundoye, the television and voice actress, seventh.
One hundred names were measured across six countries, and 99 are living. Nigeria supplies 79, Ghana thirteen, South Africa three.
