The Alive reading for August 2026 removes Chaplin and Robin Williams, and Kevin Hart and Ben Stiller enter a list where working comedians finally outnumber the film stars.
Chaplin and Robin Williams are the only names the Alive reading takes from comedy's top fifteen for August 2026, and their departure reshapes the table more than two removals usually do. Hugh Jackman still leads the 71 living names at 22.1, but Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the former television entertainer who has led Ukraine since 2019, rises to second at 21.4, and Ryan Reynolds to third at 21.1. Jim Carrey, fourth at 20.2, is now the highest-placed performer who made his name in comedy alone.
Below Carrey the living list belongs to the trade. Adam Sandler is fifth at 19, Rowan Atkinson eleventh at 16.3, Seth Rogen twelfth, Woody Allen thirteenth. The two entrants at the foot of the table are both stand-ups by origin: Kevin Hart, who rose from the Philadelphia club circuit to become one of the highest-grossing stand-up performers in history, at fourteenth with 15.3, and Ben Stiller, actor, director and screenwriter, at fifteenth. The actors who cross into comedy fill the rest. Zac Efron is sixth at 19, Cate Blanchett seventh, Jamie Foxx and Jake Gyllenhaal tied at 17.1 in eighth and ninth, Rachel McAdams tenth.
Canada's presence is the reading's most distinctive feature. Reynolds, Carrey, McAdams and Rogen are all Canadian-born, four of fifteen from a country that supplies eight of the 79 measured names.
