Mandela leads Africa, with Davido and three presidents close behind

South Africa's first Black president heads the August 2026 African table by eleven points; below him, Nigeria's musicians and West Africa's heads of state fill the ranks.
Nelson Mandela is the most famous person in the African table for August 2026, more than a decade after his death. The anti-apartheid statesman who served as South Africa's first Black president from 1994 to 1999 scores 48.2, eleven points clear of anyone living. Davido, the Nigerian singer and producer born David Adeleke, is second at 37.1, and John Mahama, the President of Ghana, third at 33.2.
Two threads run through the rest of the top fifteen. One is politics: Jacob Zuma, South Africa's fourth president, fifth; Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria's military head of state in the 1980s and its elected president from 2015, eighth, the second dead name in the table; Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigeria's president since May 2023, thirteenth; Thabo Mbeki, Zuma's predecessor, fourteenth. The other is Afrobeats: Wizkid ninth at 29.1 and Burna Boy twelfth at 27.2 join Davido to give Nigeria three of the region's most followed musicians.
The regional scope gathers the people the continent's attention groups together, not only those born there, so Shakira sits fourth, Cristiano Ronaldo sixth, Lionel Messi seventh, Michael Jackson tenth, Beyoncé eleventh and Barack Obama fifteenth. Ninety-three people were measured across 21 countries, 72 of them living. Counted by name, the United States supplies 24, Nigeria 19, Ghana 17 and South Africa ten; counted by fame, the top of the table belongs to South Africa's statesmen and Nigeria's singers.
The evidence coverage for this scope is rated medium, which means the middle of the table should be read with some latitude. The order at the top needs none. Mandela has held the continent's attention for more than thirty years and the engine finds no sign of that fading.
