Shakira is the most famous person in Latin America for August 2026, with a score of 80.4 that stands twenty points above anyone in the region except two footballers. Lionel Messi is second at 66.5 and Neymar third at 61.9. Then the table drops off a cliff: Frida Kahlo, the Mexican painter, is fourth at 41.5, and nobody below her reaches 41.
That shape is the story. The Colombian singer and the two South American forwards hold attention on a scale the rest of the continent's public life does not approach. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the former metalworker serving his second stretch as Brazil's president, is fifth at 40.3, the highest-placed politician. Jair Bolsonaro, his predecessor, is seventh. Michelle Bachelet, the surgeon who became the first woman to lead Chile, is eighth. Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president of Mexico from 2018 to 2024, is twelfth, and Gabriel Boric, who left Chile's presidency in 2026, fourteenth.
The dead hold five places. Kahlo is joined by Diego Maradona, sixth at 38.9, Michael Jackson eleventh, Che Guevara, the Argentine physician who became a central figure of the Cuban Revolution, thirteenth, and Benito Juárez, president of Mexico from 1858 to 1872, fifteenth. Ronaldinho, ninth, and Alexis Sánchez, the Chilean now at Sevilla, tenth, keep football's share of the fifteen at five.
A hundred names make up the table, 74 of them living, from eleven countries. Mexico supplies 27, the United States 23, Brazil and Chile 15 each and Argentina ten. Colombia contributes only two names, and one of them is first. Evidence coverage is rated high. The engine measures fame, and in Latin America it belongs, by a distance, to a woman from Barranquilla.
