Muhammad stands thirty-six points clear of a Middle East led by Netanyahu

iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read

The founder of Islam heads the August 2026 regional table; below him, four Saudi kings, Israel's prime minister and Egypt's pop and football stars share the fifteen.

Muhammad, the founder of Islam, is the most famous person in the Middle East table for August 2026, and no one is near him. His score of 74.7 is nearly double that of Benjamin Netanyahu, the longest-serving prime minister in Israel's history, who is second at 38.7. Amr Diab, the Egyptian singer who has shaped Arabic pop for four decades, is third at 36.8, and the reigning King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz, fourth at 36.5. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is fifth.

The House of Saud has four kings in the fifteen. Ibn Saud, who founded the kingdom, is sixth at 35.4. King Faisal, the third monarch, is twelfth. King Fahd, the fifth, who served as prime minister until his death in 2005, is fourteenth. Only Salman among them is living. Ali Khamenei, Iran's second supreme leader from 1989 until his death in 2026, is ninth, the most recent departure in the table, and Osama bin Laden, the founder of al-Qaeda, closes the fifteen at 31.7.

That makes six dead names among fifteen, and the living ones lean toward two countries. Egypt has Diab and Mohamed Salah, the Liverpool winger, at tenth. Morocco's Mohammed VI, who has reigned since July 1999, is eleventh. Global entertainment brings in Cristiano Ronaldo at seventh, Shakira at eighth and Lionel Messi at thirteenth, none of them from the region but all followed closely within it.

A hundred names sit on the table, 62 of them living, from 18 countries. Israel supplies 17, the United States 15, Iran 14, Turkey 13, Egypt 12 and Saudi Arabia 11, a spread with no dominant country. Coverage for the scope is rated medium. The top, though, is beyond doubt: attention in the region begins with a seventh-century prophet and only then turns to its kings, presidents and singers.

    About this list

This list ranks the most famous people of Middle East as of August 2026, by overall global fame rather than one month's attention: the top 100 of 118 names the rankings measured across the region, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 62 of the 100 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.

Muhammad is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Muhammad come Benjamin Netanyahu and Amr Diab. Evidence coverage for this list is medium; positions near the bottom of the table may shift as coverage improves.

    What famous means here

Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.

The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.

    How the list was ranked

The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.

    About Middle East

Middle East is one of the countries and regions the journal ranks every month. Country lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared with its neighbours and against the world.

    Powered by iFANN

iFAMOUS is published by iFANN and powered by the iFANN Global Fame Rankings v5.62. Today's live standing for this list is on ifann.net; the journal freezes it once a month so it can be cited permanently.
