Seventy-six living names, one absent, and the same two groups on top

The Alive reading of K-pop loses a single name below the top fifteen, leaving Jung Kook, V and Jimin exactly where the standard list put them.
K-pop is a sector that has barely had to bury anyone. Of the 77 names measured for August 2026, 76 are living, and the one who is not sits below the top fifteen, so the Alive reading and the standard reading agree on every name at the top. Jung Kook leads at 19.9, V at 19.6, Jimin at 17.7, and Jennie at 17.2 is the first name outside BTS.
What the living list makes plain is how international the top of Korean pop has become without leaving Korean labels. Rosé, fifth at 15.3, was raised in New Zealand. Lisa, seventh at 14.2, is from Thailand. Both are BLACKPINK members, and both now carry solo careers that the engine counts alongside the group's. Jisoo, thirteenth, adds acting to the mix, and Jennie's score includes a television role. The measure is worldwide attention, not quality, and attention has followed these four into film, fashion and solo records.
The BTS members fill the rest: Jin at sixth, SUGA at eighth, J-Hope at eleventh, RM at fifteenth. Between them sit the older and the newer. IU, tenth at 13.4, is the most famous living soloist without a group behind her. Psy and G-Dragon, twelfth and fourteenth, opened the road in the years before Bangtan, and Cortis, the Big Hit group that debuted in August 2025, arrived at ninth within a year of its first single.
South Korea accounts for 58 of the living names, but the sector's reach shows in the other eighteen: the United States and China with four each, Thailand with three, Australia and Canada with two. K-pop's living roster is, for now, its whole roster.
About this list
This list ranks the most famous k-pop stars in the world as of August 2026, by overall global fame rather than one month's attention. It is the top 76 of 76 names the rankings measured in this sector, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the Alive reading: living people only. The standard reading ranks everyone, living or dead, on one scale, and is one click away.
Jung Kook is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Jung Kook come V (Kim Taehyung) and Jimin.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About K-Pop
K-Pop is one of the sectors the journal ranks every month, alongside every country, origin and region list in this issue. Sector lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared across sectors and against the world. Korean pop groups, soloists, labels, songs and choreography that shaped the global K-wave.
