Remove Nehru, Gandhi and Ambedkar and the August 2026 reading is eleven screen and music figures, one Bangladeshi leader, India's prime minister and two foreign stars.
C. Joseph Vijay leads the living reading of South Asia for August 2026 as he leads the standard one, at 44.5, and the five names beneath him are unchanged: Nayanthara, Aishwarya Rai, A. R. Rahman, Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor. What differs is that the five dead names, Jawaharlal Nehru, B. R. Ambedkar, Mahatma Gandhi, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Mother Teresa, are gone, and their places go almost entirely to Hindi cinema.
Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh's prime minister until 2024, rises to seventh. Shreya Ghoshal is eighth. Deepika Padukone is ninth and Aamir Khan tenth, and then the new entrants: Akshay Kumar, three decades a Hindi film lead, eleventh at 28.9; Ranbir Kapoor, thirteenth at 27.4; and, level with him, Narendra Modi, India's prime minister since May 2014, fourteenth. That a head of government with the third-longest tenure in India's history ranks below eleven film and music figures is the reading's central fact.
Two foreign names complete the fifteen. Shakira is twelfth at 28.8 and Lionel Messi fifteenth at 27.3, the only non-South Asians in the group and, on this evidence, the two global stars the subcontinent follows most closely.
The reading covers 101 living people in the scope, and coverage is rated high. Eleven of the fifteen work in film or film music, all of them Indian. The Tamil industry holds the top two places, Hindi cinema holds most of the rest, and politics appears only twice, once from Dhaka and once from Delhi.
