With all 28 measured names alive, the August 2026 Alive reading for Taiwan changes nothing, and the gap between Jensen Huang and everyone else is the story.
Taiwan is one of the countries whose Alive reading is the full list. All 28 people the rankings trace to the island are living, so August 2026 shows Jensen Huang at 15.6, Lai Ching-te at 11.3, Ang Lee at 10.1, Jay Chou at 9.7 and Shu Qi at 9.2 exactly as the standard reading does, with nobody removed and nobody promoted.
What the living-only frame emphasises is how much of Taiwan's worldwide fame is still in active hands. Huang runs Nvidia. Lai has been president since May 2024. Chou still tours and records. Chiang Wan-an, eighth, is in his first term as mayor of Taipei. Only Chen Shui-bian, seventh, and Sadaharu Oh, tenth, are wholly retired, one from the presidency and the other from a baseball career that produced the most home runs in the professional game.
Two Americans of Taiwanese birth appear in the top ten. Elaine Chao, sixth, served in two presidential cabinets, at Labor and at Transportation. Huang himself holds both Taiwanese and American nationality, and his company was built in California. Ang Lee's career, third, has been American for three decades. The living list reads, in part, as a list of emigrants who made it in the United States.
The bottom of the table is domestic. Edward Chen, who broke through with the 2020 film Your Name Engraved Herein, is eleventh. Harlem Yu, Roy Chiu, Winston Chao and Wu Qing-feng of Sodagreen follow, all under 3. Chou Tien-chen, the badminton veteran at ninth, is the only athlete besides Oh.
