Jensen Huang outranks Taiwan's president, Ang Lee and Jay Chou

iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read

The founder of Nvidia leads the August 2026 origin list for Taiwan, a table of 28 living names in which technology, politics, cinema and Mandopop each take one of the top four places.

The most famous person born in Taiwan runs the world's most valuable chipmaker. Jensen Huang, the electrical engineer who founded Nvidia and remains its chief executive, scores 15.6 for August 2026, more than four points clear of President Lai Ching-te at 11.3. Behind them come Ang Lee, the director of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Brokeback Mountain and Life of Pi, at 10.1, and Jay Chou, the singer-songwriter known as the King of Mandopop, at 9.7.

Those four names describe four different routes to worldwide attention: a company built in California, an office in Taipei, an Oscar-winning film career and a music catalogue that dominates the Chinese-speaking world. Shu Qi, the actress and filmmaker, is fifth at 9.2 and completes a top five with no repeated field.

The list is small and entirely living. All 28 people measured are alive, so no figure from the island's political past holds a place, and the composition tilts to the present. Chen Shui-bian, president from 2000 to 2008, is seventh, and Chiang Wan-an, mayor of Taipei since 2022, eighth. Elaine Chao, the first Asian-American woman to serve in a United States cabinet, is sixth at 6.9, one of two names the tag gathers from American public life.

Sport contributes Chou Tien-chen, the badminton player who spent more than a decade at the top of men's singles, at ninth, and Sadaharu Oh, the home-run hitter of Japanese baseball, at tenth. Below them the table belongs to Taiwanese screen and music: Edward Chen, Harlem Yu, Roy Chiu, Winston Chao and Wu Qing-feng of Sodagreen, all scoring under 3.

    About this list

This list ranks people from Taiwan by their overall worldwide fame rather than local attention, as assessed for August 2026: the top 28 of 28 names, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 28 of the 28 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.

Jensen Huang is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Jensen Huang come Lai Ching-te and Ang Lee.

    What famous means here

Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.

The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.

    How the list was ranked

The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.

    About Taiwan

Taiwan is one of the countries and regions the journal ranks every month. Country lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared with its neighbours and against the world.

    Powered by iFANN

iFAMOUS is published by iFANN and powered by the iFANN Global Fame Rankings v5.62. Today's live standing for this list is on ifann.net; the journal freezes it once a month so it can be cited permanently.
