A dead president leads Peru, and his daughter is about to take the office

iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read

Alberto Fujimori tops the August 2026 Peru list at 12.8, with President-elect Keiko Fujimori second and five more heads of state below.

Alberto Fujimori, president of Peru from 1990 to 2000, is the most famous Peruvian in the world for August 2026 with a fame score of 12.8, and he is dead. His daughter Keiko Fujimori, President-elect of the Republic, is second at 12.1. The standard reading, which places everyone on one scale, produces a family ranking at the top of the country's list.

Peru's presidency is the country's fame engine. José María Balcázar, interim president from February to July 2026, is fourth. Pedro Castillo, removed in December 2022, is sixth. Dina Boluarte, the first woman to hold the office, is seventh. Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, president from 2016 to 2018, is eleventh, José Jerí, interim president until his own removal in February 2026, twelfth, and Alejandro Toledo, president from 2001 to 2006, fifteenth. Eight of fifteen names have held or are about to hold the presidency, and the churn in that office since 2016 is visible in how many of them there are.

The rest is survival and sport. Lina Medina, the second dead name, was the youngest confirmed mother in medical history and sits third at 8.6. Juliane Koepcke, the sole survivor of the 1971 LANSA Flight 508 crash, is fifth. Paolo Guerrero, still playing for Alianza Lima, and Valentina Shevchenko, the Kyrgyz-Peruvian UFC flyweight champion, tie at 6.2. Henry Ian Cusick, the Peruvian-Scottish actor born in Trujillo, is tenth, and the footballers Jefferson Farfán and Teófilo Cubillas thirteenth and fourteenth.

Twenty-nine measured, 27 living. Peru's list is a record of political instability first and of everything else second.

    About this list

This list ranks people from Peru by their overall worldwide fame rather than local attention, as assessed for August 2026: the top 29 of 29 names, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 27 of the 29 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.

Alberto Fujimori is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Alberto Fujimori come Keiko Fujimori and Lina Medina.

    What famous means here

Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.

The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.

    How the list was ranked

The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.

    About Peru

Peru is one of the countries and regions the journal ranks every month. Country lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared with its neighbours and against the world.
