The August 2026 Nigeria list is led by a Port Harcourt musician, an Ibadan-born British star and a striker, with Chinua Achebe the only dead name in the top fifteen.
Burna Boy is the most famous Nigerian in the world for August 2026, with a fame score of 16.1. Sade Adu, the British singer born in Ibadan, is second at 14.3, and Victor Osimhen, the striker, third at 13.3. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, President since May 2023, is the first politician at fourth with 12.2.
Music and football alternate down the rest of the table. Davido is fifth at 11.3, Rema eleventh, Ayra Starr fourteenth. Ademola Lookman of Atlético Madrid is eighth, Jay-Jay Okocha, the midfielder of the 1990s and 2000s, ninth, and Mikel Obi, eleven years at Chelsea, thirteenth. Manuel Akanji, the Swiss defender with a Nigerian father, is tenth, a diaspora case in reverse: a player the world knows in another country's shirt.
Three names come from outside those two industries. Israel Adesanya, the Nigerian-New Zealand mixed martial artist, is sixth. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, the novelist born in 1977, is seventh at 10.8. Aliko Dangote, founder of the Dangote Group and the wealthiest person in Africa, is twelfth. Chinua Achebe, the novelist who died in 2013, is fifteenth at 9.8 and is the only dead person in the top fifteen; the standard reading puts everyone on one scale, and Achebe still holds his place against living pop stars.
