Netanyahu leads Israel; five dead prime ministers hold the middle of the list
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
Israel's origin list for August 2026 puts the longest-serving prime minister first, two actresses next, and Sharon, Rabin, Ben-Gurion, Meir and Peres in a row behind them.
Benjamin Netanyahu, the longest-serving prime minister in Israel's history, is the most famous person from Israel in August 2026 with a score of 23.8. The two names behind him are actresses: Natalie Portman, the Israeli-American, at 20.4, and Gal Gadot, who played Wonder Woman, at 14.9. Yuval Noah Harari, the historian and author, is fourth at 13.2.
Then the dead take over. Ariel Sharon, prime minister from 2001 to 2006, is fifth. Yitzhak Rabin, assassinated in office in 1995, is sixth. David Ben-Gurion, the state's founder and first prime minister, is seventh. Golda Meir, the only woman to hold the office, is eighth, and Shimon Peres, who also served as president, is ninth. Five consecutive places, five former prime ministers, all within a point of each other between 12.4 and 11.6. Menachem Begin, fourteenth, makes six.
The engine measures 276 people from Israel and shows the top hundred, 70 of them living. Daniel Kahneman, the psychologist, is the one dead name in the top fifteen who was not a head of government, at eleventh.
The living politicians fill the rest: Naftali Bennett, prime minister from 2021 to 2022, at tenth; Yair Lapid, who has also held the office, at twelfth; Israel Katz at thirteenth and Ehud Barak at fifteenth. Eleven of the fifteen most famous people from Israel governed it or tried to. The ranking measures worldwide fame, not merit, and Israel's attention is almost entirely a matter of who held office, with two actresses as the exception.
About this list
This list ranks people from Israel by their overall worldwide fame rather than local attention, as assessed for August 2026: the top 100 of 276 names, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 70 of the 100 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.
Benjamin Netanyahu is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Benjamin Netanyahu come Natalie Portman and Gal Gadot.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About Israel
Israel is one of the countries and regions the journal ranks every month. Country lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared with its neighbours and against the world.
