Tebboune, Khaled and Nasri lead an Algerian list where every name is alive

The Algeria origin table for August 2026 is a president, two raï singers, an Olympic boxer and a generation of footballers raised in France.
Abdelmadjid Tebboune, president of Algeria since December 2019, is the most famous person from the country in the world for August 2026, with a score of 10. Behind him comes Khaled, the raï singer who has defined the genre for four decades, at 9, and then Samir Nasri, the French former midfielder of Arsenal and Manchester City, at 8.4. A head of state, a musician and a footballer who played for another country: that is the Algerian shape.
The scope measured 34 names, and all 34 are living. No dead Algerian, from the war of independence or from the country's literature and music, registers in this month's measurement, which makes this a list of the present. What the present looks like is largely football. Nine of the top fifteen are footballers, and most of them were born or raised in France: Ismaël Bennacer, now at Al-Gharafa in Qatar, Ramy Bensebaini of Borussia Dortmund, Houssem Aouar, Islam Slimani, Aïssa Mandi of Levante, Mohamed Amoura of Wolfsburg and the 2002-born Anis Hadj Moussa.
The exceptions are where the list becomes interesting. Sofia Boutella, the actress and former rhythmic gymnast, is fourth at 7.7. Imane Khelif, who won welterweight gold at the Paris Olympics in 2024 and became a global figure in the process, is eighth at 6.6. Cheb Mami, the second raï pioneer, is ninth, and Amel Bent, the French singer, thirteenth. Lyna Khoudri, the Algerian-French actress, closes the top fifteen at 4.5.
Algeria's fame abroad, as the engine measures it, is a French-speaking diaspora with a president at the top. The scores are modest and closely spaced, under six points from first to fifteenth.
