The Most Famous People in Algeria

Algeria's August 2026 list is topped by Muhammad, founder of Islam, at 62.4, as on several other Muslim-majority country lists this month. The first Algerian is the president. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in office since December 2019, is second at 50.2, and then the national football team takes over. Ismaël Bennacer, the French-born midfielder now at Al-Gharafa in Qatar, is fourth at 40.7. Youcef Belaïli is sixth, Islam Slimani seventh, Mohamed Amoura of Wolfsburg tenth, and Aïssa Mandi, the defender at Levante, fourteenth. Five internationals in the top fifteen.

Music and the ring supply the other Algerians. Khaled, the raï singer who has defined the genre for four decades, is fifth at 40.0, level with the footballers and ahead of every foreign entertainer but one. Imane Khelif, the boxer who won welterweight gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics and became a global figure in the process, is fifteenth. Eight of the top fifteen names are Algerian, a strong domestic share for a list with only 47 people measured.

The foreigners tell their own story. Shakira is third. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi hold eighth and ninth. Kylian Mbappé, who captains France, is eleventh, and Zinedine Zidane, the French great whose parents came from Kabylie, is thirteenth; the French connection runs through the whole table, with Bennacer and Mandi both born in France. Angelina Jolie is twelfth.

The engine measured 47 people connected to Algeria, 42 of them living. Eighteen are Algerian, fifteen American, two French and two German across thirteen nationalities. The coverage label is medium. Within those limits the shape is clear: one dead prophet, one president, a great singer, and a national side that carries most of the country's attention abroad.
