The Alive reading of the Czech Republic origin list for August 2026 is identical to the standard one, which makes it a study in how tennis and football share a small country's fame.
The Czech Republic's Alive reading for August 2026 removes nobody. All 100 published names among the 137 measured are living, so Petr Čech leads at 11.9, Martina Navratilova is second at 10.1 and Petr Pavel third at 9.9, as in the standard table. Read on its own terms, the living list shows something the standard reading does not stress: this is a country whose worldwide fame is carried by two sports in near-equal measure, and by three generations within each.
In tennis, Navratilova represents the 1970s and 1980s, Karolína Plíšková at thirteenth the 2010s, and Karolína Muchová at fifth, Jakub Menšík at ninth, Linda Nosková at eleventh and Kateřina Siniaková at fourteenth the present tour. In football, Jan Koller, Pavel Nedvěd, Tomáš Rosický and Milan Baroš all played for the national side of the 2000s, the generation that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2004. Čech, their goalkeeper, is the bridge. Patrik Schick of Bayer Leverkusen at eighth is the only current international in the top fifteen.
The politicians are three men who have held the two highest offices in succession: Miloš Zeman, president from 2013 to 2023 and earlier prime minister, at tenth, Petr Pavel, his successor, at third, and Andrej Babiš, twice prime minister, at sixth. No musician, writer, actor or scientist reaches the living top fifteen. The world's attention to living Czechs goes to the court and the pitch first, and the Castle second.
