Australia's living list adds Piastri and a second Hemsworth as Ledger and Irwin exit
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
The Alive reading of the Australia origin list for August 2026 keeps Jackman on top and lets a Formula One driver into the top fifteen for the first time.
Only two names leave the top fifteen when the Australia origin list is read for the living, but they are large ones. Heath Ledger and Steve Irwin, eighth and ninth in the standard reading, are absent from the Alive table for August 2026, and their departure pulls Oscar Piastri and Liam Hemsworth into view. Piastri, the McLaren Formula One driver born in Melbourne in 2001, is fourteenth at 12.8, the first athlete on the list. Liam Hemsworth, of The Hunger Games and The Witcher, is fifteenth at 12.7, nine places behind his brother Chris.
The top of the living table is unchanged. Hugh Jackman leads at 22.1, Sia is second at 20.8, Margot Robbie third at 19.7, and Kylie Minogue and Chris Hemsworth share 18.8. Jacob Elordi and Cate Blanchett follow, then Milly Alcock of House of the Dragon moves up to eighth at 15.
The living pool is large: 259 names, against 276 in the full scope. That means Australia loses only 17 people to death across the whole measured set, a low share for a country whose cultural exports go back a century. The world's attention to Australians is concentrated on people working now, mostly in American film and television.
Two things stand out among the living. The first is age. Kylie Minogue, with more than 80 million records sold, and Keith Urban, the country singer at twelfth, represent a generation that has held attention for decades, while Alcock and Elordi are recent arrivals. The second is politics, which barely registers. Anthony Albanese, prime minister since May 2022, is thirteenth at 13.3, the only office-holder in a table of performers.
About this list
This list ranks people from Australia by their overall worldwide fame rather than local attention, as assessed for August 2026: the top 100 of 259 names, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the Alive reading: living people only. The standard reading ranks everyone, living or dead, on one scale, and is one click away.
Hugh Jackman is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Hugh Jackman come Sia and Margot Robbie.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About Australia
Australia is one of the countries and regions the journal ranks every month. Country lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared with its neighbours and against the world.
