Erdoğan, Pekkan and the living voices of Turkish pop lead the country's Alive reading

With Ahmet Kaya, Fethullah Gülen and Nâzım Hikmet gone from the table, the August 2026 living list for Turkey adds Öcalan, Arda Turan and two foreign names.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan leads the living Turkey list for August 2026 at 46.5, and Ajda Pekkan holds second at 35.9, exactly as on the standard reading. What changes is the space below them. Ahmet Kaya, Muhammad, Fethullah Gülen and Nâzım Hikmet all drop out, and Hande Yener moves up to third, Sibel Can to fourth and Sertab Erener to fifth.
The singers are still the majority. Yener, who has shaped Turkish pop since 2000, Can, Erener, Sezen Aksu at eighth and İbrahim Tatlıses at eleventh make five living recording artists in the top eleven, and Pekkan is a sixth. Few country lists in this issue follow a sitting head of state with a run of musicians rather than rival politicians.
Those rivals come later. Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is ninth and Ekrem İmamoğlu, the mayor of Istanbul, tenth. Abdullah Öcalan, the founder of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, enters at thirteenth at 24.1, a name that appears on the living reading only because the deceased ones cleared room.
Football and foreign names fill the rest. Cristiano Ronaldo is sixth, Arda Güler seventh, Arda Turan, born in 1987, twelfth, Lionel Messi fourteenth and Donald Trump fifteenth.
