The Most Famous People in Mexico

Mexico's list for August 2026 has one of the tightest top threes of any national table. Andrés Manuel López Obrador, president from 2018 to 2024, leads on 72.7. Claudia Sheinbaum, who succeeded him as the country's first woman president, is second on 72.1. Benito Juárez, president from 1858 to 1872, is third on 70.7. Two living presidents and one from the nineteenth century inside two points of each other is a statement about how completely Mexican fame runs through the office.

The historical names go deep. Frida Kahlo is fifth on 65.2, a painter outscoring every boxer, footballer and all but one singer in the country. Porfirio Díaz, who governed for most of the years between 1876 and 1911, is ninth, and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, the seventeenth-century poet and philosopher, fifteenth. Four dead names in fifteen, and 34 dead in the top hundred, give Mexico one of the lowest living shares in the issue: 66 of 100.

Between the presidents and the painters sits the entertainment industry. Luis Miguel is fourth on 67.6, the most famous living Mexican outside politics. Peso Pluma, the corridos tumbados singer, is seventh, Belinda eighth, Thalía twelfth and Christian Nodal fourteenth. Sport is Canelo Álvarez at sixth, Javier Hernández, the national team's all-time top scorer, tenth, and Sergio Pérez thirteenth. Enrique Peña Nieto, president from 2012 to 2018, is eleventh, making four presidents in fifteen.

The scope measured 250 people, and every one of the top hundred is Mexican, a fully domestic hundred that almost no other national table matches. No Ronaldo, no Messi, no Trump. That absence is unusual, and it says that the world's attention on Mexico goes to Mexicans, whether they governed the republic, painted it, sang it or fought for it.
