Shohei Ohtani edges Donald Trump for first on Japan's August 2026 list, a table where sixteenth-century samurai sit above a living emperor.
Shohei Ohtani, the Dodgers pitcher and designated hitter, is the most famous person connected to Japan in August 2026, and his margin is a tenth of a point. His 58.6 sits over Donald Trump's 58.5, among the closest finishes at the top of any national table this month. Shinzo Abe, the longest-serving prime minister in the country's history, is third on 56.3, the first of six dead names in the fifteen.
The others are an unusual set. Michael Jackson is fourth. Oda Nobunaga, the most powerful warlord of the Sengoku period, is seventh on 50.5. Naruhito, the 126th emperor, is ninth. Ichiro Suzuki, 28 seasons across two leagues, is thirteenth, and Yuzuru Hanyū, the figure skater, fifteenth. Sport supplies three of the five living Japanese in the group.
