Muhammad above Prabowo, and eight presidents: Indonesia's list is faith and state
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
The Indonesian table for August 2026 puts the founder of Islam first, a sitting president second, and every president the republic has had inside the top fifteen.
Indonesia's list for August 2026 opens with a name that belongs to no country. Muhammad, the founder of Islam, leads on a score of 83.1, which in the most populous Muslim-majority nation on earth is exactly the placement the standard reading, with its single scale across every era, would predict. Jesus Christ is third on 68.1. Between them stands Prabowo Subianto, the retired general who became the eighth president of Indonesia in 2024, on 68.7, the most famous living Indonesian by a clear margin.
The rest of the table is a roll call of the republic. Sukarno, the founding father, is fourth. Joko Widodo, president from 2014 to 2024, is fifth. Suharto, who ruled from 1967 to 1998, is seventh; Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono eighth; B. J. Habibie tenth; Megawati Soekarnoputri eleventh; Abdurrahman Wahid, known as Gus Dur, fourteenth. Every president Indonesia has had since 1945 appears within fifteen places, four of them dead, a concentration of political memory few national lists can match.
Music breaks in twice. Agnez Mo, the Jakarta-born singer and actress, is sixth on 53.7, ahead of Suharto, and Tulus, whose jazz-inflected pop has made him one of the most respected figures in Indonesian music, is twelfth. Kartini, the feminist heroine who died in 1904, is thirteenth. The foreign names are the familiar two: Cristiano Ronaldo ninth and Lionel Messi fifteenth.
The scope measured 247 people. Of the top hundred, 91 are Indonesian and 74 are living, so a quarter of the country's famous are historical figures, most of them the founders and rulers who built the state.
About this list
This list ranks the most famous people connected to Indonesia as of August 2026, by overall fame rather than one month's attention: the top 100 of 247 names the rankings measured for Indonesia, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 74 of the 100 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.
Muhammad is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Muhammad come Prabowo Subianto and Jesus Christ. Evidence coverage for this list is high, so its order can be quoted with confidence.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About Indonesia
Indonesia is one of the countries and regions the journal ranks every month. Country lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared with its neighbours and against the world.
