Leguizamo leads a three-name living Colombia once García Márquez steps aside

The Alive reading of the Colombia list is an actor and two politicians from opposite ends of the country's divide.
Take Gabriel García Márquez out of Colombia's list and three names remain. John Leguizamo, the Colombian-American actor, leads the living at 22.4. Álvaro Uribe Vélez, who served as president from 2002 to 2010, is second at 18.3. Iván Cepeda, the philosopher and human rights activist prominent on the Colombian left, is third at 10.1. In August 2026 that is the entire Alive reading of the country.
The order says something even at this size. An actor who has spent his career in the United States holds more worldwide attention than either of the two politicians, which is consistent with how fame works across most national lists: entertainment travels, domestic politics mostly does not. The exception is when politics is contested enough to be news abroad, and Uribe's eight-point lead over the other politician on the table, and his four-point deficit to Leguizamo, put him in that narrow category.
The absence of García Márquez is the difference between this reading and the standard one, and it is a large difference in proportion. His 30.5 was eight points clear of Leguizamo; without him the top score on the table drops by more than a quarter. On a list of four, one death removes a quarter of the names and most of the literary weight.
The coverage label is medium and the scope is plainly incomplete. Three living people connected to Colombia is a starting count, not a portrait of a country of more than fifty million, and the table will change as Spanish-language evidence is folded in. For now the living Colombia list is a comedian and dramatist, a former president and an activist, ranked by attention rather than by anything they would claim for themselves.
