Lula, Bolsonaro, Neymar: Brazil's list is two presidents and then football
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
The sitting and former presidents hold the first two places in August 2026, with Pelé the highest-ranked of six dead names in the top fifteen.
Politics leads Brazil this month, and by a distance. Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the former metalworker and trade unionist who is in his second stretch as president, scores 85.7, one of the highest figures on any national list this month. Jair Bolsonaro, his predecessor from 2019 to 2023, is second at 76.0. Neymar, third at 69.5, is the first footballer. Then comes Pelé, who died in December 2022 and holds fourth at 54.2, ahead of Ronaldinho at 49.5.
Brazil's dead occupy a large share of the table. Michael Jackson is sixth. Marília Mendonça, the sertanejo singer killed in a plane crash in 2021, is tenth at 44.0. Getúlio Vargas, president across two eras between 1930 and 1954, is twelfth, and Ayrton Senna, the Formula One driver, thirteenth. Adolf Hitler closes the top fifteen. Only 74 of the hundred listed names are living, one of the lowest proportions among the larger national lists, and it is the older generation, Pelé, Senna, Vargas, that accounts for much of that.
The living middle is home-grown. Dilma Rousseff, president from 2011 to 2016 and later head of the BRICS development bank, is eighth. Xuxa, the television host who built the largest children's entertainment business in Latin America, is ninth. Vinícius Júnior is eleventh and the original Ronaldo, the striker, fourteenth. Shakira at seventh is the sole foreign living entertainer in the top fifteen.
The engine measured 339 people connected to Brazil and lists 100, of whom 59 are Brazilian and 24 American across thirteen nationalities. In August 2026 the country's fame is its own, split between the presidential palace and the pitch.
About this list
This list ranks the most famous people connected to Brazil as of August 2026, by overall fame rather than one month's attention: the top 100 of 339 names the rankings measured for Brazil, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 74 of the 100 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.
Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva come Jair Bolsonaro and Neymar. Evidence coverage for this list is high, so its order can be quoted with confidence.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About Brazil
Brazil is one of the countries and regions the journal ranks every month. Country lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared with its neighbours and against the world.
