Bangladesh's list is led by its dead: Prophet, national poet, founding president
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
Three of the top three in August 2026 are gone, and Sheikh Hasina is the highest-placed living name, one point ahead of Lionel Messi.
No living person makes the top three of Bangladesh's list. Muhammad, founder of Islam, leads with a score of 63.2. Kazi Nazrul Islam, the poet, musician and revolutionary who is the country's national poet, is second at 40.0. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first president of Bangladesh, is third at 38.7. The fourth name is the first living one, and it is his daughter: Sheikh Hasina, prime minister from 1996 to 2001 and again from 2009 to 2024, at 38.3.
The rest of the top fifteen is a political roll call interrupted by football. Khaleda Zia, the first woman to serve as prime minister, holds sixth after her death, and Ziaur Rahman, the army chief and president assassinated in 1981, is twelfth. Muhammad Yunus, the economist who founded Grameen Bank and pioneered microcredit, is eighth. Taslima Nasrin, the author and secular humanist, is tenth. Lionel Messi at fifth, Cristiano Ronaldo at seventh and Neymar at eleventh reflect a country where South American football has an enormous following. Shakib Al Hasan, cricketer and politician, is thirteenth, and Pori Moni, the film actress, fourteenth.
The engine measured 112 people connected to Bangladesh, lists 100, and finds 36 Bangladeshis, 30 Americans and 10 Indians among them, across seventeen nationalities. Seventy-six are living, one of the lower shares on any national list this month, and the reason is plain: the country's founding generation, its poets and its assassinated presidents still hold the attention that elsewhere would go to entertainers. In August 2026 Bangladesh's fame is political, literary and inherited.
About this list
This list ranks the most famous people connected to Bangladesh as of August 2026, by overall fame rather than one month's attention: the top 100 of 112 names the rankings measured for Bangladesh, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 76 of the 100 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.
Muhammad is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Muhammad come Kazi Nazrul Islam and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Evidence coverage for this list is high, so its order can be quoted with confidence.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About Bangladesh
Bangladesh is one of the countries and regions the journal ranks every month. Country lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared with its neighbours and against the world.
