Albanese edges a global pack atop an Australian list short on Australians

The prime minister leads August 2026 by a tenth of a point over Cristiano Ronaldo, Taylor Swift and Donald Trump, and no other Australian appears in the top fifteen.
Anthony Albanese is the most famous person connected to Australia this month, but only just. The prime minister, in office since May 2022 and Labor leader since 2019, scores 70.1. Immediately behind him, all on 70.0, sit Cristiano Ronaldo, Michael Jackson, Donald Trump, Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande. Five names within a tenth of a point of the leader, and none of them Australian, is the defining feature of this table.
Elizabeth II, queen of Australia as well as of the United Kingdom from 1952 until her death in 2022, is seventh at 69.4, the highest-placed name with a constitutional link to the country. Adolf Hitler is eighth, Justin Bieber ninth and Eminem tenth. Lionel Messi, Elon Musk and William Shakespeare share the next three places at 65.5, 65.4 and 65.4, followed by Lady Gaga and Shakira. Four of the top fifteen are dead: Jackson, the late queen, Hitler and Shakespeare, all names whose recognition does not depend on the news cycle.
That absence of Australians near the top is not an absence of Australians. The engine measured 361 people connected to the country, one of the larger pools on any national list, and 45 of the 100 listed are Australian, with 31 Americans, six Britons and four Canadians across sixteen nationalities. Eighty-six are living. The country's own actors, athletes and musicians begin further down the table, below a wall of global entertainment and politics. In August 2026 attention in Australia is heavily imported, with the prime minister the one domestic figure who holds his ground against it.
