Thirteen years after his death, Nelson Mandela still holds the top score on the August 2026 origin list for South Africa, with an actress, a pop singer and a sitting president behind him.
Nelson Mandela leads South Africa's origin list for August 2026 with a score of 21.7, and Charlize Theron, the actress, is second at 21.2. The half point between them is the closest race at the top of any large origin list in the issue, and it pits a statesman who died in 2013 against a working film star. Mandela's place is held on durable recognition; Theron's on a career that is still producing headlines.

Steve Nash, thirteenth, is a Canadian basketball player born in Johannesburg, and Belle Delphine, eleventh, an English internet celebrity born in Cape Town. The origin tag follows birthplace, and South Africa's is unusually well travelled.
