King Salman edges his son at the top of Saudi Arabia's living names

iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read

Strip out the prophet, the kings and the militant, and the August 2026 living list for Saudi Arabia becomes a portrait of the present-day court, its clerics and its football.

The living Saudi-origin list for August 2026 starts where the standard one reaches its first breathing name. King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud leads at 13.8, and Mohammed bin Salman, the crown prince and prime minister who runs the kingdom day to day, follows at 13.7. Father and son are separated by a tenth of a point, and nobody else among the 184 living people measured comes within five points of either.

The absences are the point of this reading. Muhammad, Osama bin Laden, Jamal Khashoggi, Ibn Saud and four of his sons, together holding nine of the standard top fifteen, are all dead and all gone from the table. Their removal promotes a very different set of people: Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, the investor, to sixth at 7.2, Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, chief imam of the Grand Mosque in Mecca, to seventh, and Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority, to ninth.

Football supplies more of the living top fifteen than any other field. Salem Al-Dawsari, captain of Al-Hilal and the national team, is fifth at 7.6. Saud Abdulhamid, a right-back at Lens in France, is twelfth. Majed Abdullah and Saeed Al-Owairan, strikers from the kingdom's earlier World Cup years, are fourteenth and fifteenth. Yasir Al-Rumayyan, co-chairman of Newcastle United since 2021, is eleventh.

Two figures are here by origin rather than identity: Rey Mysterio, the American wrestler, is third at 12.3, and Zakir Naik, the Indian preacher, fourth. Princess Rajwa Al Hussein, eighth, and Saad Hariri, thirteenth, show how far the kingdom's family ties reach into Jordan and Lebanon.

    About this list

This list ranks people from Saudi Arabia by their overall worldwide fame rather than local attention, as assessed for August 2026: the top 100 of 184 names, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the Alive reading: living people only. The standard reading ranks everyone, living or dead, on one scale, and is one click away.

Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud come Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud and Rey Mysterio.

    What famous means here

Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.

The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.

    How the list was ranked

The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.

    About Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia is one of the countries and regions the journal ranks every month. Country lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared with its neighbours and against the world.

    Powered by iFANN

iFAMOUS is published by iFANN and powered by the iFANN Global Fame Rankings v5.62. Today's live standing for this list is on ifann.net; the journal freezes it once a month so it can be cited permanently.
