Mahama edges Desailly on a Ghana list where football fills the table

Ghana's president holds first place by a tenth of a point over a French World Cup winner of Ghanaian birth, on a list of a hundred living names.
John Mahama, president of Ghana, is the most famous person from the country in August 2026 with a score of 9.5, and the margin is a tenth of a point. Marcel Desailly, born in Accra and a World Cup winner with France, is second at 9.4. Thomas Partey, the Villarreal midfielder, is third at 8.9. The top of the list is a head of state flanked by footballers, and the pattern holds all the way down.
The engine measures 173 people from Ghana and shows the top hundred, every one of them living. That is notable for a country with a founding president of Kwame Nkrumah's stature, and it says more about where evidence currently exists than about Ghanaian history. Nana Akufo-Addo, president from 2017 to January 2025, is thirteenth, three points behind the man who succeeded him. The ranking measures worldwide fame, not merit, and Ghana's attention travels with the men who left to play in Europe.
