The Belgium origin list for August 2026 puts a 1990s action star ahead of a four-time Formula One champion, with Audrey Hepburn the only dead name in the top fifteen.
Jean-Claude Van Damme, the martial artist whose films defined 1990s action cinema, is the most famous person from Belgium in the world for August 2026, scoring 20.5. Max Verstappen, the Belgian-born Formula One driver who races under the Dutch flag for Red Bull, is second at 20.4, a tenth of a point behind. Then the footballers arrive in force: Romelu Lukaku, who captains Belgium and plays for Napoli, is third at 19.1, and his Napoli teammate Kevin De Bruyne is fourth at 18.6.
Two of the top six are not Belgian by nationality at all, which is what an origin list is for. Ursula von der Leyen, the German physician who has led the European Commission since 2019, ties De Bruyne at 18.6. Audrey Hepburn, the British actress born in Brussels, is sixth at 18.2, the only dead name in the top fifteen and one of just two among the 100 published.
Football supplies eight of the top fifteen. Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid is seventh, followed by Leandro Trossard of Arsenal, Youri Tielemans of Aston Villa, Vincent Kompany, now coaching Bayern Munich, Jérémy Doku of Manchester City and Charles De Ketelaere of Atalanta. Remco Evenepoel, the cyclist, is fifteenth at 10.
Music gets one seat, Stromae at twelfth with 12.8, and the monarchy one, King Philippe, on the throne since 21 July 2013, at thirteenth. The scope measured 172 names, and 98 of the 100 published are alive, so this is a list about the present. Belgium's fame abroad is, for now, a sports team with a film star and a Commission president at the front.
