Two ruling families hold the top of an Emirati list with no dead names
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
Dubai's ruler leads a United Arab Emirates origin table built almost entirely from serving royals, with a rally driver, a Russian industrialist and an Australian vlogger filling the gaps.
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai since 2006 and born in 1949, is the most famous person from the United Arab Emirates in the world for August 2026, with a fame score of 12.8. Behind him sits Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, president of the federation and ruler of Abu Dhabi since May 2022, at 10. The two houses then alternate down the table: Hamdan bin Mohammed, Crown Prince of Dubai and the country's defence minister, is third, and Mansour bin Zayed, vice president and deputy prime minister, is fourth.
That shape tells its own story. The Emirates is a young state, and the people the world attaches to it are the people who run it. Of the 122 names measured in the scope, all 100 in the published table are alive. There is no Mozart or Pelé in this list, no dead founder outranking the living, because the country's international profile was built within living memory.
The non-royal names show where attention arrives from outside politics. Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the former rally driver who now runs world motorsport's governing body, is sixth. Andrey Melnichenko, the Russian industrialist who founded two of that country's largest commodity companies, is seventh, and Alex Hirschi, the Australian presenter known as Supercar Blondie, is ninth. All three are adopted Emiratis in the sense that matters to an origin list: the world files them under Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Culture only enters at thirteenth, where the singer Ahlam leads a short run that includes the Lebanese pop veteran Ragheb Alama and Hussain Al Jassmi. The ranking measures worldwide fame, and for the Emirates that attention still points at the palace before the stage.
About this list
This list ranks people from United Arab Emirates by their overall worldwide fame rather than local attention, as assessed for August 2026: the top 100 of 122 names, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 100 of the 100 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum come Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About United Arab Emirates
United Arab Emirates is one of the countries and regions the journal ranks every month. Country lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared with its neighbours and against the world.
