Amr Diab and Salah lead living Egypt beneath the Prophet, Umm Kulthum close behind
iFAMOUS Editorial Desk · 1 min read
Egypt's August 2026 list is fourteen parts Egyptian and eight parts dead, from a pop singer at the top to a Quran reciter at fifteenth.
Muhammad leads Egypt's list at 74.9, and then the table becomes almost entirely Egyptian. Amr Diab, the singer who has shaped Arabic pop for more than four decades, is second at 62.5. Mohamed Salah, the winger regarded as one of the greatest of his generation, is third at 56.4. Sherine, called the Voice of Egypt, is fourth, and Elissa, the Lebanese singer, fifth, one of the adjacent figures a country scope gathers. Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, president since 2014, is sixth at 35.3.
Then the dead take over. Umm Kulthum, the contralto whose delivery of classical Arabic poetry made her the most celebrated musician of the Arab world, is seventh. Cleopatra, last active ruler of the Ptolemaic kingdom, is eighth. Hosni Mubarak and Anwar Sadat, presidents from 1981 to 2011 and from 1970 to 1981, are ninth and tenth. Naguib Mahfouz, the first Arabic-language novelist to win the Nobel Prize for Literature, is eleventh. Abdelhalim Hafez, the singer and actor, is thirteenth, and Abdul Basit 'Abd us-Samad, the Quran reciter, fifteenth. Eight of the fifteen names are dead, and only 65 of the hundred listed are living.
The living entertainers in between are Tamer Hosny, singer and producer, at twelfth, and Adel Emam, the comic actor regarded as one of the most influential performers in Arab entertainment, at fourteenth. No foreign pop star, footballer or politician makes the top fifteen at all, which is rare; 66 of the hundred names are Egyptian, 20 American, across twelve nationalities.
The engine measured 236 people connected to Egypt in August 2026, with a medium coverage label. The shape it finds is a culture that ranks its singers above its presidents, living and dead alike, and a footballer who has become the country's most visible living export after Amr Diab.
About this list
This list ranks the most famous people connected to Egypt as of August 2026, by overall fame rather than one month's attention: the top 100 of 236 names the rankings measured for Egypt, frozen as the permanent record of that edition. This is the standard reading: everyone, living or dead, on one scale. 65 of the 100 listed are living; the Alive reading restricts the same ranking to living people.
Muhammad is No. 1 on this list for August 2026. Behind Muhammad come Amr Diab and Mohamed Salah. Evidence coverage for this list is medium; positions near the bottom of the table may shift as coverage improves.
What famous means here
Fame, in iFAMOUS, is how widely the world knows a name: how recognisable a person's name, face or work is, and how well people know who they are. It is assessed from extensive historical and current public data, some of it reaching back more than twenty years, and it is not merit, talent, importance or popularity on iFANN. The rankings model real-world global fame, not internet fame; the data is the instrument, not the subject. Activity on iFANN itself is excluded.
The month in the title is the date of this edition, not the period measured. The list is a snapshot of overall fame as it stood when the issue was frozen: a name does not lose its place because one month was quiet, and a trending moment alone does not put a name here. Trending attention is published separately on ifann.net.
How the list was ranked
The iFANN Global Fame Rankings combine worldwide Wikipedia readership across languages, worldwide news coverage and search interest anchored against stable reference names, with search history reaching back to 2004. A twelve-month baseline sits behind the current reading and short-lived surges are capped, so the list reflects durable recognition rather than one week of headlines. Rankings are computed daily on ifann.net and frozen on the second day of the following month as that month's issue; a published issue never changes.
About Egypt
Egypt is one of the countries and regions the journal ranks every month. Country lists use the same rankings and the same scale as The 100, so a name can be compared with its neighbours and against the world.

iFAMOUS is published by iFANN and powered by the iFANN Global Fame Rankings v5.62. Today's live standing for this list is on ifann.net; the journal freezes it once a month so it can be cited permanently.
